A message from our Pastor regarding SET
Dear St. Luke Parishioners,
The Catholic Church makes an effort to create a safe environment for our children on all church premises and at church-sponsored events. We continue to make sure that ALL of us have completed the requisite training.
The benefits of the training greatly outweigh the sacrifice. Let me start with the downside: you have to take 3 hours for the initial session and an annual renewal in order to become familiar with ways how you can protect minors.
The many benefits include the following among other things:
Blessings,
Fr. Pawel Stawarczyk, Pastor
The SET program will:
Educate and empower adults about how to prevent abuse. How to separate the facts from the myths about abuse. How offenders gain access to children. What to do when you see warning signs in children or adults.
In the Diocese of Phoenix, all volunteers must complete Called to Protect for Ministries™ as the foundation course for Safe
Environment. Called to Protect for Ministries is a 3 hour program which teaches steps that each one of us can take to prevent child sexual abuse.
As part of the CMG Connect, the new location where SET will be housed, all volunteers are required to set up a new login and password, complete a Safe Environment Application and consent to a background check.
After taking the Safe Environment foundation course, an renewal training is offered for all subsequent years. This training is offered through in-class sessions or through computer online training.
Renewal - You will take the renewal class if you have already taken the basic class.
All volunteers must take a renewal class every fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

- You contribute to a safe environment in church and in your neighborhood by your informed conduct
- You do not allow “bad guys” to take any risks simply by your adherence to the rules (their improper behavior will immediately stand out in the safe environment that you co-create)
- You literally save lives – by preventing that irreparable damage is done to the innocent
- You make sure the well-being of the families remains intact – by preventing the nightmare of abuse
- You learn how to protect your own children and grandchildren outside the church
